Channel Setting
A Channel setting is another popular setting that is used on engagement rings with more than one stone. You often will “spot” the Channel setting on the ring’s shoulder, and as the name suggests, the dazzling stones are placed side-by-side in a precious metal “channel”. In general, this type of setting enhances the beauty of the main or center diamond in the setting. In this “channel”, the diamonds or other stones are held securely in place in quite the attractive setting.
However, if you are looking for the “most secure” type of Channel setting, you should definitely look for a closed back channel setting. If you do prefer an open back channel setting, you should ensure that supports are placed under the jewels, or that bars are placed between the channel walls so as to prevent the stones from falling out in years to come.
Quite similar to the Channel setting is the “Bar setting”. This particular setting is different from the Channel setting only in that metal separates the diamonds. This simple difference creates a quite open and modern look.
