Channel Setting

Channel Setting

A Channel setting is a setting that is used on engagement rings with more than one stone. You often will spot the Channel setting on the ring's shoulder, and the stones are placed side-by-side in a precious metal channel. In general, this type of setting enhances the beauty of the main or center diamond in the setting. In this channel, the diamonds or other stones are held securely in place with the setting.

However, if you are looking for the most secure type of Channel setting, you should look for a closed back channel setting. If you prefer an open back channel setting, you should ensure that supports are placed under the jewels, or that bars are placed between the channel walls so as to prevent the stones from falling out in years to come.

Bar Setting

Similar to the Channel setting is the Bar setting. This particular setting is different from the Channel setting only in that metal separates the diamonds.

It accentuates the stones, while also featuring more metal. This may be a good alternative to the Bezel setting, which may cover the stone too much. This simple difference creates an open and modern look.

Flush Setting

Flush Setting

The Flush setting is a minimal look. The diamond or other stone is sunk into the ring so that the diamond is actually level or flush with the surface. As such, the top or table of the ring is the only part of the diamond that shows.

Unlike the Bezel setting, the Flush setting does not fold over the diamond. The resulting look is an extremely modern, clean design with minimum fuss; however, it still manages to deliver maximum style. The Flushing setting also helps protect the diamonds because they are completely encompassed by the metal.
