Where are Rubies Mined?
Today and traditionally (even in the Marco Polo’s day!), most high quality rubies are mined in exotic Burma. Here, the right conditions permitted limestone to transform into ravishing rubies over time. However, you can also find quality rubies in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Kenya and Thailand. Rubies are also mined in other varied locations in the world, but only a small number of these places mine the sought-after higher quality stones. Some of these countries include Central Asia, Africa, United States, and even Afghanistan. If you are looking for the international center of ruby trading however, Thailand is the place. In fact, Bangkok is the international “finished” ruby trading capital.
