August’s Birthstone: Peridot
Peridots are a lovely lime green color, with the highest quality peridots exhibiting the lime green color without a brownish tint. Peridot is one of the few gemstones that exist in only one colour.
Fine traces of iron account for the deep green colour with a slight golden hue.
Peridot is quite an old jewel, and the gem has been found in Egyptian jewelry dating back from the early second millennium BC.
Peridot, however, can also be a quite modern stone, and because the fashion world currently has a preference for the color green, the popularity of this beautiful gemstone has increased as well.
Due to the fact that this gem is quite abundant on earth, large stones of this jewel are available at reasonable prices. Peridots can be found in Burma, China, and the United States.
