March’s Birthstone: Aquamarine
Aquamarine is the traditional birthstone for March. Aquamarine is a transparent beryl that can be blue, blue-green or green in color. Aquamarine is prized for this fine blue color as the hue suits almost any or eye-colour or complexion. Additionally, gemstone artists are often inspired by this lovely color and develop innovative cutting techniques on these fine gems.
The Greek root of the word aquamarine means "seawater" and, not surprisingly, in ancient times, people believed that this jewel would bring sea travellers good luck.
Aquamarines are additionally the universal symbol for good health and hope.
Aquamarines can be found in Brazil, Madagascar, Nigeria, Ukraine and Zambia.
