October’s Birthstone: Opal
Opals are a gorgeous form of the mineral silica, which come in a variety of colors that includes white, gray, red, and black. Almost ninety-five per cent of all fine opals originate from the dry, sparely populated outback deserts. Opals do have the unique ability to play with color by diffracting light at various wavelengths. Consequently, the opal’s color play emanates a very special attraction and fascination. A very pretty gem today, opals have symbolized hope and innocence throughout time. Opal is mined in Australia, Mexico and the United States.
