Page 1 of 6 What makes a diamond famous or special?
First of all, size. When we say size, we really do mean BIG... wait, no, we mean HUGE.
A close second, the story. Some of the diamonds have been around for centuries. These diamonds have stories of war, romance and destruction attached to them.
The Tiffany Yellow
‘The Tiffany’ is the best known yellow diamond in the world. Found in the De Beers mine in Kimberly in 1878, it weighed a spectacular 287.42 carats. The following year, it was sold to Charles Lewis Tiffany of Tiffany and Co. fame. Over a century after its discovery, the Tiffany still remains one of the largest yellow diamonds in existence. Cut in Paris into a cushion-shaped wonder with 90 facets and a cut weight of 128.51 carats, the diamond was valued at US$12m at the end of 1983.
The Tiffany now resides on display on the ground floor of the 5th Avenue Tiffany & Co. store for all those wishing to add a bit of glitz and glamour to their lives.
